Campgrounds in New York

Adirondack & Catskill Regions

The New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation maintains 52 public campgrounds and day-use facilities. The rates are reasonable and permits are issued for available sites for up to a two-week period from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Reservations may be made for 1 to 14 nights, depending on campground and time of year.

Gateway National Recreation Area

Floyd Bennett Field in the Jamaica Bay Unit has four public campsites available for a unique urban, yet rustic camping experience. There is a fee of $50 for three nights. For more information, call 718-338-3799.
The Sandy Hook Unit has campgrounds for organized youth groups only, with no more than 40 total individuals.

Harriman-Bear Mountain State Park

Camps supervised by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission include Baker Camp, Sebago Cabin Camp and Beaver Pond Campgrounds.

Long Island

Fire Island National Seashore has concession camping at Watch Hill Campground 631-567-6664.
New York State parks on Long Island where camping is permitted are Hither Hills State Park, and Wildwood State Park.

Campgrounds run by Nassau County are Battle Row Campground 516-572-8690 and Nickerson Beach Campground 516-571-7724.

Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia Counties

Camping is available at Clarence Fahnestock State Park in the east Hudson Highlands region.
In northern Dutchess County, along the Hudson River, is Mills Norrie State Park (Margaret Lewis Norrie).

Malouf's Mountain Sunset Camp is in the Hudson Highlands. This privately run facility offers a shuttle from the Metro North Beacon train station.

Shawangunks

There are no campgrounds at Minnewaska State Park Preserve or the Mohonk Preserve, and camping is not allowed in either area.
