2008 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The Assembly and Senate are due back from summer recess by mid-September. When they return, Bill A823 will be debated by the full Assembly and Bill S2055 will be heard in the Senate Transportation committee.

Please join our statewide grassroots campaign to support this legislation. The campaign will include: action alerts, letters to the editor, a push for local ATV enforcement ordinances in northern New Jersey and a series of press events highlighting the damage and safety issues surrounding ATV use. Quick facts:

• Bill A823, on June 12th, was unanimously voted out of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee and referred to the full Assembly.
• The primary sponsors of A823 are Reed Gusciora, Paul Moriarty, John Wisniewski (Chair of Assembly Transportation committee).
• Bill S2055 is the Senate version sponsored by Senator Robert Gordon and it was introduced on June 19, 2008. It has been referred to the Senate Transportation Committee and should be scheduled for a vote in late September or early October.
• The TC is working closely with Pinelands Preservation Alliance, New Jersey Conservation Foundation and NJ Audubon to persuade the Legislature to vote favorably for these bills.
