Bear Mountain Pedestrian Tunnel to reopen
Who: Carol Ash, Commissioner, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
What: Ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the reopening of the newly reconstructed pedestrian tunnel under Route 9W at Bear Mountain State Park.
When: 12 p.m., Thursday, June 5th, 2008.
Where: Bear Mountain State Park, Bear Mountain, New York.
The tunnel, which previously was not accessible to the disabled and required pedestrians to climb a steep staircase, closed last September for renovations. The improvements will make for safer, easier access to the park pool and Trailside Zoo.
The Bear Mountain State Park is part of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. The Palisades Interstate Park Commission administers 29 parks, parkways, and historic sites for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in New York as well as the Palisades Interstate Park and parkway in New Jersey.
