Several loop trails lead hikers through former mining operations that date back to the early 1700s.  For safety reasons, hikers should stay on the marked trails.

Known locally as the Richard Mine, Mount Hope Historical Park was once a booming iron mining and processing site.  Mining at this site had begun as early as 1710 and did not end until 1958 - and not until 1978 in the larger Rockaway Township area.  The Park is part of the original Mount Hope Tract with more than 20 mining locations.
